My six favourites of 2024
What was your favourite book of 2024?
I always like to look back in December and pull out my favourite half-dozen titles from the list of books that I’ve read or listened to over the course of the year. So in case you’re in need of a little gift inspiration for that book-loving family member – or ideas for what to look out for next year – here are my six favourites of 2024.
My six favourite books in 2024
Rough Justice by Wendy Joseph KC – a great follow-up to her bestseller Unlawful Killings, the author draws on her experience as a judge at the Old Bailey to shine a light on our justice system. Non-fiction that reads like the most gripping courtroom drama.
To Love a Liar by LV Matthews – a brilliantly twisty thriller that asks the ultimate question: how well do we really know the ones we love? Delves deep into the murky world of undercover police officers and the layers of deception that come crashing down when they’re unmasked (coming in 2025).
The Plot by Jean Hanff Korelitz – a struggling writer comes up with a huge bestseller – but someone out there knows he stole the plot. I loved this compelling, funny, tricky and highly entertaining story of people in the publishing world behaving very badly.
Everybody Knows by Jordan Harper – a pitch-black slice of American crime writing that peers into the darkest corners of Los Angeles, as a young woman tries to unravel the murder of her boss. Modern noir at its best and deserved winner of the Crime Writers Association Steel Dagger Award.
Notes on a Drowning by Anna Sharpe – lawyer Alex takes on a conspiracy that reaches to the very top of the establishment in this cracking thriller. Great characters, brilliant dialogue and a gripping story (coming January 2025).
Dominion by CJ Sansom – I love a good alternative history thriller and this has to be up there with the best. Set in a post-WWII Britain that surrendered to Germany in 1940, a network of British resistance agents uncovers a secret that could change the course of history.
So you know I've been busy reading... but I've also been busy putting up the Christmas decorations!
Advance proof of The Daughter - coming February 2025
We’ve decorated our tree in red, silver and gold, strung lights outside the house and got the Christmas music playlists going 😊 I’ll be in charge of the turkey on the day so I’ll be busy until it’s time for the King’s speech, then there should be time to relax a little…
Whatever you’ve got planned, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year – see you in 2025!
